Modified Rules for PDRL

Here are the adapted laws for our competition, ensuring the game is safe, inclusive and fun for players with physical disabilities.

How the Game is Played

Our competition follows the Australian Rugby League Laws with modifications to support participation and fairness.

  • Two halves of 20 minutes each, with a 10-minute interval.
  • A try is worth 4 points, a goal 2 points.
  • No scrums.
  • An accidental knock-on or drop ball is treated as a tackle; after six tackles, possession changes.

Tackle & Shorts System

We use a uniquely tailored “shorts system” to accommodate different abilities while maintaining competitive play:

  • Players wearing black shorts follow the standard tackle rules as per NRL format.
  • red shorts apply when:
    • Players cannot safely tackle / be tackled due to their condition
    • Female players
    • Players under 16 years of age

Please note: All players must meet the physical disability criteria for primary team roles.
