Hi All,

You might have seen the announcement in the Pacific Championships for Rugby League will be held, additional to the announcements is that a PDRLA team will play a NZPDRL side in a Test Match, as a curtain raiser to the New Zealand V Tonga at Go Media Stadium, Auckland, on November 2nd, it will be live streamed.

As most will be aware, the PDRLA have run a member of camps over the past 12 months, preparing the side and is part of preparation for the 2026 World Cup activities, that are being planned at present.

It is planned that the final squad will be named this week, and settled on as availability, fitness and other life factors come in to play.

The plan is to fly to Auckland on Wednesday 3oth October, team training on Thursday, Preparation Day Friday, Game Day Saturday and Return at Australia on Sunday.

This is a great opportunity to showcase the game, and it has been heart warming to have the support of the players in the program so far.

Sponsorship and Funding

You might be aware that the PDRL is supported by Cabra Leagues Club, NSWRL, NRL, iCare and in the past EML, Nova, Harvey Norman and over the coming future, will be looking to fund the programs local and international over the next two years being 2025 and 2026.

The plan is to repeat the program from 2024, expanding the reach of the game and hopefully the participation rates in the Come & Try Games as well as the Cabra Cup, and promote some speids games such as the Test V NZPDRL.

Physical Disability Rugby League Australia (PDRLA) invites expressions of interest from officials, carers and supporters to participate in the support of the PDRLA team selected to travel to Auckland on the 30th of October, to play a test match on the 2nd of November and return to Australia on the 3rd of November..

The PDRLA is seeking members who may be interested in the following roles as part of the PDRLA support network in the lead up and during the short tour.

The touring positions are:

Tour Manager – Paul Tubridy/Keith Povah
figurehead and point of escalation, responsible for budget with Team manager, ensure all activities organised, and communication with Hosts and officials

Coach – Brenden Pellegrino
Provide instructions, guidance, plan and motivation to players and support staff

Assistant Coach – Craig Anderson’
Ensure all support staff are engaged on game day, work with interchange official on team makeup, assist coach to implement game plan

Team Manager – Open for selection
organisation of day to day activities, responsible for budget with Tour manager
Prepare team off field to ensure full attendance and appropriate attendance for all activities, game, training, travel and meetings. Ensure all injuries are handled appropriately, and players welfare is fully managed.

Ensure all player preparation is complete, and players are supported in any injury situation, throughout the entire tour

Player welfare / Carer
Blue shirt water carrier – assisting coaching team with preparing squad to play at training and game, running water,

Work closely with Coach staff, to ensure all players are in the right place at the right time

Player Welfare / Assistant Manager
Work closely with the manager to ensure all touring party, is aware of activities, and gear is managed and accounted for, players delivered to coaching staff appropriately
Game Day Governance inc interchange – help team manager with logistics, ensure game day paperwork and interchange is correct
Ensure any players who have issues or require assistance are supported, with appropriate actions

Player welfare communication
Work with manager to ensure all paperwork is correctly applied, any registration or insurance documentation performed, ensure social media is managed, and any streaming information is provided to supporters

The Team will participate in a training program and warmup game in Auckland 30th October – 3rd November 2024. The Test Match will take place on the 2nd of November at Mt Smart Stadium.
